Job Description

The Test and Repair Technician ensures the reliability of Coda Octopus Engineering-designed rugged, embedded, electronic boards and systems through test, analysis, troubleshooting, modification, and repair. This role encompasses both hardware and software design platforms. Close cooperation is required with Engineering and Operations to ensure test processes and procedures are followed.
The Test and Repair Technician provides Systems Engineering and Integration support for range instrumentation systems including telemetry, command control, radar, communications, embedded computing, and associated systems. The Test and Repair Technician will interpret test requirements and documented procedures, collect and analyze test failure data and conduct inspections, testing, verification and system validation. The Test and Repair Technician also will participate in environmental, qualification, reliability and first-article testing. Finally, the Test and Repair Technician must be able to identify and articulate issues with returned systems in order to generate proposals to fix the systems.

A Test and Repair Technician must be familiar with standard electronic test equipment including but not limited to lab power supplies, multimeters and oscilloscopes.

The Test and Repair Technician will introduce and influence process improvements and act as an agent for organizational test change. The Test and Repair Technician Identifies functional problems, suggests and implements corrective actions. They will assist in internal quality control standards and the maintenance of reliability programs.

Finally, the Test and Repair Technician may be called on to repair and assemble specific rugged embedded systems and electronic board assemblies. As a result, the Test and Repair Technician must be able to prep circuit card assemblies (CCA), solder hand placed SMT and thru-hole parts using a microscope, place parts as small as 0402, touch-up CCAs (including installing wire jumpers), and rework (R&R) CCAs and other assemblies. Cable assembly duties include routing/ties wires to form wire harness used in electrical and electronic equipment or systems.

Qualifications

Must have a High School Diploma or GED and at least 5 years of related experience. Technical college degree preferred. Must be able to perform job duties with little to no assistance. Experience working to schematics, process instructions, test instructions and engineering drawings is required.

Ideally, the Test and Repair Technician candidate would have experience with test process development, test case design, test procedure development, test execution, system evaluation, test reporting, and repair diagnostics and identification. They must understand basic test methodologies and processes, and have the ability to design and author test documentation as well as diagnose systems that have failed internal testing or are returned from the field.

Candidates must be capable of passing the IPC610 / J-STD-001 Class 3 Certified Application Specialist course and inspection against these standards. A current J-STD-001 Class 3 or IPC-610 Class 3 certification is a plus.  You may be asked to inspect others’ work per J-STD-001 Class 3.

Must be able to work on Export-controlled and ITAR assemblies, and obtain a US Security Clearance if required.

Candidate must be self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment.
